HOME GROWN DONUTS

You know how every city small or big has it's claim to fame? I used to think it was only smaller cities and towns. After living in Memphis I see that large cities do the same name dropping and event recognizing (Elvis, Loraine Motel, even Justin Timberlake).
I am from the small city of Paducah that is mentioned in the previous blog (although many people have heard of it, spell check evidently has not). Well us Paduchians have some things to hang our hat on such as the residence of a former vice-president, professional baseball player Steve Finley, and the contemporary Christian artist Steven Curtis Chapman who played a concert on my high school football field.
But I did not know until recently that Krispy Kreme originated in P-town. Yes, that's right donut lovers, I hail from the town that brought you crispy and creamy donuts. I didn't know this until recently reading a wikipedia post about Paducah. Where else would I find this kind of info?

Now the story, Vernon Carver Rudolph, the inventor of Krispy Kreme was involved with a local shop owned by his uncle. He turned the shop's assets into a secret recipe that was later marketed as Krispy Kreme in North Carolina. The funny thing is Paducah has never had a Krispy Kreme store, but according to the Wiki Paducah donut stores have been serving similar donuts since World War II. I also heard a rumor about the coffee shop next door that took their recipe to Seattle...
